Business Coaching and Marketing Strategies to Accelerate Your Growth

Episode 119 —How Christian Entrepreneurs Can Make the Right Business Decisions

Making the right business decisions is one of the biggest challenges for entrepreneurs, managers, and leaders. While spreadsheets, analytics, and market trends provide helpful insights, they can’t capture everything. For Christian business leaders, discernment offers a faith-based approach to making decisions with clarity, confidence, and peace.

In this post, we explore three key discernment principles inspired by St. Ignatius of Loyola to guide you in your business journey.

1. Holy Indifference: Release Emotional Bias

Holy indifference doesn’t mean you don’t care. Instead, it’s about being open to the outcome that best serves your mission, without letting personal desires or emotions interfere.

For example, a CEO may face a choice between a lucrative acquisition or staying independent to better serve customers. Holy indifference asks: Am I willing to pursue the option that aligns with God’s purpose and the mission, even if it’s not my preferred choice?

Think of it like a scientist running an experiment—you’re seeking truth, not just the results you hope for. By letting go of bias, you make room for clarity and guidance from the Holy Spirit.

2. Tentative Decision: Test Your Options

Clarity doesn’t always arrive instantly. Sometimes, you need to take a step forward to see where it leads

In business, this can mean running a pilot program or testing a new strategy before fully committing. Ask yourself:

  • Does this option energize my team?
  • Does it align with my mission and values?
  • Am I feeling peace or anxiety about this decision?

Think of it like trying on clothes—you check the fit, see how it feels, and adjust if necessary. Tentative decision-making allows you to combine practical insights with spiritual discernment, ensuring a confident path forward.

3. Act Boldly: Commit with Confidence

Once clarity arrives, it’s time to act boldly. Many leaders hesitate, overthink, or seek constant reassurance. Discernment calls for full commitment.

Like a trapeze artist letting go of one bar to grab the next, you must move forward with trust and conviction. Bold action brings momentum to your business and ensures that God’s guidance is honored in your leadership.

Why Discernment Is a Superpower for Christian Leaders

Discernment is more than a spiritual practice; it’s a leadership superpower that combines emotional intelligence with spiritual awareness. When practiced consistently, discernment helps Christian entrepreneurs:

  • Make decisions aligned with faith and values
  • Navigate uncertainty with confidence and peace
  • Lead teams effectively without getting stuck in indecision

Building a close relationship with God is key. Practices like “soaking”, dedicating time to silence, prayer, and listening, help you tune in to God’s guidance for your business decisions.

Final Thoughts

Decision-making doesn’t have to feel overwhelming or isolating. By applying holy indifference, tentative decision-making, and bold action, Christian entrepreneurs can lead with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
