Mid-Year Check-In: How Are Your New Year’s Resolutions Going?
We’re just past halfway through the year, and we thought it would be a great time to do a mid-year check-in on our New Year’s resolutions. Are we surviving or thriving? Let’s find out!
Personal Goals
Brooke’s Fitness Journey
IBrooke is happy to report that her gym routine has been going pretty well! She even hired a personal trainer who’s been keeping me accountable. While she hasn’t been perfect every week, she’s been consistently hitting the gym. She gives herself a solid B on this goal. Rachel even noticed some results in the tricep area – thanks, sis!
Nutrition Goals
Now, nutrition is a different story. She had committed to making green smoothies again, but that didn’t quite pan out. However, she did find a great local company called Grounding Roots that delivers fresh green juices to her door every week. While it’s not exactly the same as making her own smoothies, she’s been consistently drinking these juices. She gives herself a C here, recognizing there’s room for improvement but also acknowledging the positive changes she’s made.
Rachel’s Fitness and Nutrition
Rachel has been crushing it with her gym routine! She’s been consistently going 5 times a week, even working with a personal trainer. As for nutrition, she’s been making smarter grocery choices and cooking more, though she admits there’s still room for improvement.
Personal Development
One area where Brooke struggled was her goal of going on more date nights with her husband. While she hasn’t had many intentional date nights at home, they did take a couple of weekend trips together, including a cruise and a trip to Austin for their anniversary. She gives herself a C on this one, recognizing that there’s definitely room for improvement.
Professional Goals
Speaking Engagements
We’re thrilled to report that we’ve made great progress on increasing our speaking engagements! We’ve presented at various Rotary clubs, chambers of commerce, and even a women’s conference. We recently spoke at One Million Cups in Daytona Beach, which was an incredible experience. We’d give ourselves an A in this area!
Online Courses vs. Coaching
While we initially set a goal to create online courses, we ended up pivoting to launching coaching services instead. Sometimes, goals evolve as we progress, and that’s okay! We’re excited about this new direction and the value we can provide to our clients through coaching.
Business Gifting Strategy
Not only did we develop a gifting calendar as planned, but Brooke also launched a whole new business called Ship Your Gifts! This service helps other businesses with their gifting strategies, from choosing the right gifts to packaging and shipping them. Talk about exceeding our goals!
Spiritual Goals
Daily Devotions
Brooke is happy to report that she’s been consistent with reading the Bible every morning. While there have been a few days she’s missed, especially on weekends when her routine is different, she’s doing much better than in previous years. The YouVersion app has been a great help, allowing her to either read or listen to the Bible as she’s getting ready in the morning.
Family Devotions
Rachel admits she’s struggled with maintaining consistent family devotions, especially during the summer when routines are disrupted. It’s a reminder that it’s never too late to start over and incorporate our goals into changing schedules.
Unique Approaches
Remember Brooke’s cold shower goal? Well, she’s still doing it, though not as consistently as she would like. It’s actually gotten easier now that it’s summer in Florida and the water isn’t quite as cold. She’s averaging about once a week, which is progress!
Rachel even tried an ice bath this year, staying in for an impressive 14 minutes! While it was a challenging experience, she found it mentally rewarding and is considering incorporating more cold therapy into her routine.
Lessons Learned
1. Be realistic with your goals, but also have a solid plan for implementation.
2. Create a routine around your goals to help build habits.
3. Be flexible and willing to adapt your goals as circumstances change.
4. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you fall short – use it as motivation to improve.
5. Celebrate your successes, no matter how small they may seem!
