Business Coaching and Marketing Strategies to Accelerate Your Growth

Episode 165 —How to Host a Business Event That Actually Grows Your Brand

When most businesses host an event, they ask one question afterward:

“How many customers did we get?”

But what if that’s not the best way to measure success?

The true value of an event often goes beyond immediate sales. A successful event can build brand awareness, strengthen relationships, create referral opportunities, and help your business become the one people remember when they need your services.

Recently, we hosted a community event for Boltz Legal and learned some valuable lessons about what makes an event impactful.

Start With a Strategy, Not Just a Celebration

The goal wasn’t simply to throw a fun event. It was to create meaningful connections within our community.

One of the biggest changes we made was moving the event from our office to a nearby park. While our office was convenient, we realized we weren’t reaching the neighborhood families closest to our business. By moving the event to a familiar community space, we were able to connect with people who had never attended our previous events.

Sometimes growth comes from reaching the right people, not just more people.

Build Awareness Before People Arrive

Successful events begin before the event itself.

We used multiple marketing channels, including direct mail, social media, Facebook ads, and partnerships with local businesses, to create awareness.

Each interaction helped build familiarity with our brand. By the time attendees arrived, many had already seen our name multiple times.

That’s the power of creating multiple touchpoints.

Create Experiences People Remember

People remember experiences more than advertisements.

Our event included activities, games, giveaways, music, and opportunities for families to create memories together. The most impactful moments weren’t necessarily the most expensive ones. They were the moments that created emotion and connection.

A child proudly showing their medal to their parent or a family enjoying time together creates a memory associated with your brand.

People may forget what you say, but they remember how you make them feel.

Make Sure People Remember Your Business

One of the biggest challenges with events is making sure attendees remember who hosted it.

It’s easy for people to enjoy an event and leave without remembering the business behind it.

We intentionally created opportunities throughout the event to reinforce our brand and make sure attendees understood who we were and what we did.

The goal wasn’t to make the event feel like a sales pitch. It was to create genuine connections.

Capture the Relationship After the Event

An event shouldn’t end when everyone goes home.

Collecting contact information allows you to continue building relationships, stay connected, and create future opportunities.

Events can help grow your email list, create referral relationships, and provide valuable follow-up opportunities with attendees and vendors.

Measure More Than Immediate Revenue

When evaluating event success, don’t only look at how many customers came from the event.

Consider:

  • How many people attended
  • How many contacts you collected
  • How much brand awareness you created
  • How many relationships you built
  • How much engagement your event generated
  • What future opportunities came from those connections

The return on investment of an event may not always be immediate, but the long-term impact can be significant.

The Biggest Lesson

The biggest takeaway from our event was simple:

People do business with businesses they know, like, trust, and remember.

A successful event isn’t just about what happens during those few hours. It’s about the relationships you build and the impression you leave behind.

So before your next event, don’t just ask:

“Did we get customers?”

Ask:

“Did we create an experience people will remember?”

Because that’s where the real value is.
