Business Coaching and Marketing Strategies to Accelerate Your Growth

Episode 161 —The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry

As entrepreneurs, we’re often told that success requires moving faster, doing more, and staying busy. But what if the reason we feel overwhelmed isn’t because we have too much to do, but because we’re living at a pace God never intended?

One of the most powerful lessons from The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry is that Jesus was never in a hurry. Despite having only a short time on earth to fulfill His mission, He regularly stepped away to pray, spend time with God, and move with purpose rather than pressure.

In John 11, Jesus learned that Lazarus was sick, yet He waited before going to him. By the time He arrived, Lazarus had died, but that delay set the stage for an even greater miracle. It’s a reminder that God’s timing often looks different than ours.

As business owners, we often rush decisions, opportunities, and solutions because we feel responsible for fixing everything. But sometimes God is already working behind the scenes, and our greatest act of faith is learning to wait.

The challenge is that our lives are filled with constant noise. We wake up to our phones, listen to podcasts in the car, answer emails all day, and scroll social media at night. We rarely create space for silence. Yet Luke 5:16 tells us that Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

If we want to hear God’s direction for our lives and businesses, we must create room to listen.

Four Ways to Slow Down

**1. Practice Silence and Solitude**

Spend 10 minutes each day without your phone, music, or distractions. Use the time to pray, reflect, and listen.

2. Honor the Sabbath

Set aside one day each week to rest. Trust that God can do more with your six days of work than you can accomplish in seven without Him.

3. Simplify Your Commitments

Not everything deserves your attention. Remove distractions and obligations that aren’t producing results or aligning with your purpose.

4. Intentionally Slow Down

Pause before responding, be fully present in conversations, and resist the urge to rush through every moment.

Matthew 11:28-30 reminds us that Jesus’ yoke is easy and His burden is light. We were never meant to carry the weight of life and business alone. The key is learning to walk alongside Him instead of running ahead.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, the answer may not be to work harder. It may be to slow down, trust God, and create space for Him to guide your next step.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is simply be still.
